Finance and control Martin Svensson: ”To have fun at work one important factor is the knowledge that you actually can change job within the organization from time to time.” You have worked at several places within the organization, tell us your Sandvik story! Moving from one side of Sweden to the other after finishing my studies in 2000 I have been working in different positions. Curiosity and a willingness to try new things together with good luck and most often very good managers have given me the opportunity to personal growth. I have had the luck to work for our three business areas, head office and IT company so the experience of Sandvik is rather broad than deep. For a period I worked for Sandvik in China and was based with my family in Shanghai. This was a very interesting period of my life. Professionally to see Sandvik a little bit more from the outside, we are not the biggest or most well-known employer in Shanghai, even though we do have a good reputation and attract very good people also there. But also of course from a personal perspective with a lot of new things to get used to. What are your main responsibilities today? Business Control has the overall responsibility for continuous tasks such as business performance and control, business consolidation, management reporting, comments and analysis, planning and operational KPI’s. A further responsibility is financial decision-making support regarding specific tasks and projects such as acquisitions, divestments and investments. What makes your job fun? I enjoy working in a team with professional and dedicated people willing to develop and learn more. I also like being a line manager after a period of project-oriented tasks. The possibility to work with people with different background, education and knowledge is one of the most fun things. How has your work helped you to develop personally? The opportunities to work as manager and also live abroad with my family are the things from my work that have had the biggest impact on my personal development. Since I have had the possibility to work within different business areas and head office I have had the fortune to meet and work with a lot of people. This has helped me in my personal development, not to forget the different training programs I have participated in. What is your favorite Sandvik product and why? I really like to use gadgets and different technical stuff to make the day-to-day work and life easier, so my favorite Sandvik product is of course the Coromant Machining calculator app. Sandvik Coromant has released a free app designed to provide engineers and machinists with a convenient resource for calculating cutting data. Once downloaded and installed, the app helps users optimize performance of their turning, milling and drilling applications by calculating optimal settings based on a job’s unique parameters.

Finance and control: The financial operations are increasingly integrated into the core business.
