Patrik Cedendahl: ”The best part about my job is working with new technology and always having skilled and pleasant colleagues."
Can you tell us something about your background and how you joined Sandvik?
I had my own company and secured a consulting assignment for Sandvik in 1994, which lasted one and a half years. I was subsequently offered a position as an IT technician, which I accepted. I left Sandvik in 1999, during the IT era, and began consulting again. I returned to Sandvik in 2002 and am currently working as a system developer at Sandvik IT Services, which is Sandvik’s own consulting company for process development, IT architecture and project management, as well as the development, implementation, management and operation of systems. Sandvik’s position as a secure employer was also a feature that attracted me to the company.
What do you do at Sandvik?
I work as a system developer. I am currently providing support to the Sandvik Tooling business area with respect to the ToolDraw system (processing of new technical drawings) and the TIBP portal project. ToolDraw is being developed in WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) and TIBP is being developed in Microsoft SharePoint 2010.
I am also working on TFS (Team Foundation Server), which is our system for managing the applications that we develop.
What is the best part about your job?
Working with new technology and always having skilled and pleasant colleagues.
Tell us about an interesting project you have been part of.
ToolDraw. It is a system that registers new drawings made by designers in a central database. It has been developed in WPF 4. The system communicates with the mainframe to enter, alter and remove drawings.
How has your work helped you to develop personally?
I have learned to assume more responsibility. I have also naturally become more skilled with respect to my daily work, thanks to Sandvik’s position on training its personnel.
What has been the biggest surprise about working at Sandvik?
That we are at the forefront in terms of bringing in new technology.
Why would you recommend Sandvik as an employer?
If you are like me and enjoy working with new technology, Sandvik IT Services is definitely an alternative. Sandvik is always supportive of further education; neither time nor financing tends to be a problem. Sandvik is a stable and global company. | IT:
The progress within IT is constantly creating new possibilities and advantages in the entire Group; time and place become less important. Half of Sandvik's IT resources are located at wide spread places but active in common projects.
